Wylie ISD’s 2023 Combined Orchestra Concert

The Wylie ISD Orchestra program has seen tremendous growth in the last few years, and that is easy to see in these photos of the 2023 combined concert. A packed gym floor of Orchestra students played to packed gym risers. The orchestras of Davis Intermediate, McMillan Junior High, and Wylie High School each played their individual pieces, and then joined in concert to play “Ode to Joy” by Beethoven. The Wylie High combined orchestra also performed "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson where my youngest son, to everyone’s amusement, had the part of the neighing horse (second to last photo)!

In the last photo of this series, I tried to get as wide a shot as I could with my 24mm to get a most of the crowd.

Scroll down to the bottom to listen to 35 seconds of Hyrum’s beautiful violin solo.

For your listening pleasure, I’ve included 35 seconds of Hyrum’s violin solo in Wylie High Combined Orchestra’s performance of “Angles Greet with Anthems Sweet,” arranged by Chris Thomas.

Audio and video recorded with my Nikon D780 using the in-camera stereo microphones and the Nikon AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 D lens.
