Mahler Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection”

Tonight I had the pleasure of attending the last performance of Plano Symphony Orchestra’s 40th Anniversary season. We were treated to an hour and a half of Mahler’s powerful Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection.”

Plano Symphony Orchestra - Last Performance of their 40th Anniversary Season

For this performance, Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 was conducted by Maestro Hector Guzman, and the PSO was joined by Haley Sicking (soprano) & Erin Roth Thomas (mezzo-soprano) along with Irving Chorale and Plano Civic Chorus.

According to the PSO’s website,

The final performance of the Plano Symphony Orchestra’s triumphant 40th Anniversary Season will bring together the largest ensemble of musicians in PSO history, uniting the Plano Civic Chorus and the Irving Chorale with 100 PSO musicians for a rousing performance of one of the very best symphonies of all time: Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection.”

After the final notes finished echoing through the music hall, Maestro Hector Guzman and the PSO received a 5-minute standing ovation, complete with cheers and whistles. I was accompanied by my youngest son, who is very involved in his High School orchestra where he plays the Viola. We had a fantastic evening.
